The Account I Forgot I Had

I found it by accident.

I was cleaning out old passwords from my phone. You know the thing. Years of signing up for random sites, forgetting the credentials, and just making new accounts instead. My password manager had about sixty entries, half of which I didn’t recognize. I was going through them one by one, deleting the ones I never used.

That’s when I saw it. An account for an online casino. Created fourteen months ago. Never deposited. Never played. I stared at the entry for a solid thirty seconds trying to remember why I’d signed up in the first place.

Then it came back to me. A buddy from work had been talking about some bonus offer during lunch. Free spins with no deposit required. He’d made it sound like free money. I’d signed up on my phone while waiting for my sandwich, grabbed the free spins, and promptly forgotten the whole thing existed.

I hadn’t won anything back then. Just a few dollars in bonus funds that expired before I could figure out how to use them. I’d moved on with my life and never looked back.

But now, sitting on my couch on a rainy Sunday afternoon, I was curious. I clicked the entry and hit the login button. My browser opened and there it was. Vavada login screen, waiting for me like I’d never left.

I typed in the credentials. They worked. That alone surprised me.

The account looked exactly how I’d left it. Empty balance, a few game icons scattered across the screen, and a pop-up notification about a “welcome back” offer. I almost closed the tab. I was just cleaning up old accounts, not looking for a new hobby. But the offer caught my eye. Deposit fifty, get fifty free. Wagering requirements were low. Nothing complicated.

I sat there for a minute, thinking. I’d just finished paying off my car. Six months ahead of schedule. I’d been putting extra money toward it every paycheck, living a little tighter than usual, and now I was done. I had a little breathing room for the first time in almost a year.

Fifty dollars wasn’t going to change my life. But the idea of playing with free money, money that came from an account I’d forgotten I even had, felt different. It felt like found time. Like a bonus round I hadn’t earned but was getting anyway.

I deposited the fifty through my phone. Took about thirty seconds.

I decided to play roulette. Not because I know anything about it. I don’t. I picked it because it looked simple and I’d seen it in movies. Red or black. Odd or even. That I could understand.

I started small. Five dollars on red. The wheel spun. Red came up. I let the winnings ride. Another spin. Black this time. I lost. No big deal. I kept playing that way, betting small, alternating between colors and numbers, never putting too much on any single spin.

It was relaxing. The rain was hitting the window. I had a cup of coffee next to me. No rush, no pressure. Just me and the wheel, seeing what happened.

After about thirty minutes, I was up to a hundred and twenty dollars. The bonus funds were still sitting there untouched. I hadn’t even touched them yet. I was playing entirely with my deposit and winnings.

I decided to get a little more aggressive. Not stupid, just less cautious. I put twenty dollars on black. The wheel spun. Black. I let it ride on the next spin, twenty on black again. Black again. My heart picked up a little. I let it ride one more time, forty dollars on black.

The dealer called out “no more bets.” The wheel started spinning. I watched the little white ball bounce around, hopping from number to number. It landed on black twenty-two.

My balance jumped. I was sitting at just over three hundred dollars now. All from a fifty-dollar deposit and an account I’d forgotten existed.

I cashed out. Not all of it, but most. I left fifty in there, just enough to keep the account active, and withdrew the rest. Two hundred and eighty dollars.

I used that money to take my mom out for her birthday. Nice restaurant downtown, the kind with cloth napkins and a wine list I don’t understand. She ordered the salmon. I got a steak. We split a bottle of something she picked because she liked the label.

When the check came, I paid with the withdrawal. It covered everything plus tip, with a little left over for dessert somewhere else.

I still have that account. I check it maybe once a month. Sometimes I play a little, sometimes I don’t. Most months I lose whatever small deposit I make and call it entertainment. But every once in a while, I remember that Sunday afternoon. The rain, the coffee, the wheel hitting black three times in a row.

The Vavada login is still saved in my phone. I almost deleted it that day. Fourteen months of sitting there, forgotten, waiting for me to come back and actually use it. Now it’s one of the few passwords I keep. Not because I’m chasing something. Just because it reminds me that sometimes the best opportunities are the ones you forgot you had.
